RLLR expands Ferrucci’s program into Detroit double-header

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing has confirmed Santino Ferrucci will continue to race with the team at rounds seven and eight of the 2021 NTT IndyCar Series at ‘Dual in Detroit’ on June 12-13.

Ferrucci returned to IndyCar action at the 105th running of the Indianapolis 500 with RLLR in the No.45 HyVee entry after initially departing the category to pursue a drive in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

The Connecticut native suffered a heavy crash during practice but turned around his fortunes to finish in sixth place.

The 23-year-old will once again drive the No.45 HyVee entry alongside team-mates Takuma Sato and Graham Rahal, who won both races at the Belle Isle circuit in 2017.

Ferrucci’s IndyCar debut came at the event in mid-2018 with Dale Coyne Racing.

His best result around the 14-turn street circuit was 10th place in the second of two races during his first full season IndyCar campaign in 2019.

“I’m excited to compete in the two races in Detroit after a fantastic run at the Indy 500,” said Ferrucci, “To carry the momentum into Detroit is massive for the team.

“Hy-Vee is partnering with Frito-Lay so we will have Chester Cheetah and the Cheetos brand on the car, which I think is pretty awesome. It’s a fantastic track, and I’m excited to be returning to Detroit since we didn’t get a chance to race there in 2020.”

“The excitement and energy that the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team brings forth to our partnership is like none other,” added Randy Edeker, Chairman, CEO and President of Hy-Vee.

“The team truly cares about its fans just like we care about our customers at Hy-Vee. Since signing on as a sponsor last year, we’ve heard from people all over the country about our involvement in racing and look forward to what the rest of the season has to offer.”
