NASCAR Cup Series driver Kyle Larson won his second-consecutive Chili Bowl Midget Nationals at the Tulsa Exposition Center on Saturday night. He did so in dominating fashion, leading all 55 laps of Saturday’s A-main and holding off Justin Grant late in the race.
Grant finished second. Former part-time NASCAR Truck Series driver Tanner Thorson finished third, Cannon McIntosh was fourth, and Daryn Pittman rounded out the top-five.
Fellow-Cup Series driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. finished seventh, and another Cup Series driver, Christopher Bell, was 14th in Saturday night’s main event. Former NASCAR national-level drivers Brad Sweet and Rico Abreu finished eighth and 17th, respectively.
Larson also won the A-main race the previous Tuesday.
Larson will return to the Cup Series in time for the 2021 season-opening Daytona 500 on Feb. 14 after being sidelined by a NASCAR suspension for most of the 2020 season because of his use of a racial slur during a live online stream of an iRacing event. He’ll drive the #5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet after being fired as driver of the #42 Chip Ganassi Racing entry.
Other current NASCAR national-series drivers who competed in the 2021 Chili Bowl but failed to advance to the main event included Chase Briscoe, Justin Allgaier, Garrett Smithley, J.J. Yeley and Brett Moffitt. Former NASCAR national-level drivers among the 309 entrants included Ryan Ellis, Tanner Berryhill and Kasey Kahne.
