Patient Williams ‘know our time will come’ – Russell

George Russell (GBR) Williams Racing in the FIA Press Conference. Eifel Grand Prix, Thursday 8th October 2020. Nurbugring, Germany.

George Russell says Williams’ “time will come” after asserting that the squad is making tangible progress with its 2020 Formula 1 challenger.

Williams is the only team yet to score a point this season and last reached the top 10 in last year’s rain-hit German Grand Prix, which was held at Hockenheim.

Williams has been in the mix among the backmarkers this year, with Russell reaching Q2 on several occasions, and has finished three races in 11th position.

Nicholas Latifi scored 11th at Austria’s season-opener and at Monza while Russell ran inside the points for most of the race at Mugello before slipping back.

“Over the course of the last few races we’ve been putting more emphasis on to our Sunday performance as it is clear that on Saturday we are performing very well and we are extracting everything from the car,” said Russell ahead of this weekend’s Eifel Grand Prix at the Nurburgring.

“Last Sunday in Russia was a bit of a specific issue, we had some issues with the front tyres and they were just completely out the window, and unfortunately the sport is dominated by aerodynamics and tyres.

“If one of those is not working as you wish, then you are in a world of trouble.

“We are understanding this car better now that the races are progressing, and it is definitely going to help us in the coming races.

“We have to be patient but our time will come. We have to make sure that we are in the mix, which is what we are doing with her qualifying performances.”
