Toyota leads one-two in second practice ahead of qualifying

Toyota Gazoo Racing continues to set the pace in practice ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, while LMP2 squad IDEC Sport had both their cars suffer crash damages.

Paul Lafargue crashed the #28 ORECA 07-Gibson, bringing out a red flag with two hours remaining before Dwight Merriman caused a second stoppage when the #17 ORECA 07-Gibson also had a crash.

Sebastien Buemi set the quickest time in the #8 Toyota TS050 Hybrid with a 03:19:719, ahead of the 03:02:611 time set by the #7 Toyota TS050 Hybrid of Jose Maria Lopez.

The #3 Rebellion R13-Gibson completed the top three, with the #29 Racing Team Nederland ORECA 07-Gibson fourth overall and quickest in LMP2 thanks to a flyer from Nyck de Vries.

The Dutchman put the ORECA ahead of the #4 ByKolles ENSO CLM P1/01-Gibson, which was fourth in LMP1. The #1 Rebellion R13-Gibson was not able to set any kind of meaningful lap as it underwent an engine change.

Jackie Chan DC Racing was second in LMP2 ahead of the #38 JOTA ORECA, High Class Racing and G-Drive.

Porsche leads GTE

Porsche gained more pace in the second practice session after a more cautious opening session, with Michael Christensen setting the pace in the #92 Porsche 911 RSR-19 with a best time of 03:52:783.

Christensen was some six-tenths of the #97 Aston Martin Vantage AMR, in the hands of Alex Lynn, with the #91 Porsche 911 RSR-19 in third. Weathertech Racing was fourth quickest, just under a second behind the leading Porsche.

The #51 AF Corse Ferrari was fifth quickest, ahead of the second Aston Martin of Marco Sorensen, the #71 Ferrari and the Risi Competizione Ferrari.

Matt Campbell put Dempsey-Proton Competition up top in GTE Am with a late charge in the #77 Porsche 911 RSR, setting a 03:53:961, which put him a second up on Come Ledogar’s #61 Luzich Racing Ferrari 488 GTE Evo.

Gulf Racing was third quickest, with the #86 Porsche 911 RSR turning its best lap in the hands of Gulf Racing, ahead of Julien Andlauer in the #89 Porsche 911 RSR.
