Formula 1 drivers have been warned that they risk having lap times deleted if they exceed track limits at this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix.
The system has been trialled successfully at previous grands prix this season, with drivers having times erased if they put all four wheels outside of the track limits.
In his pre-event notes Formula 1’s Race Director Michael Masi has warned that drivers must not cut behind the apex kerb of Turn 4 (Raidillon) or run behind the painted kerb on the exit of Turn 9.
The drivers have also been warned that if they run wide exiting the Bus Stop chicane both that lap and the following lap will be invalidated by the stewards.
In the race drivers will be shown a black-and-white flag on their third offence and any further transgression will then be reported to the stewards.
Masi has accepted that such requirements will not automatically apply to any driver if they are deemed to have been forced off-track.
Should drivers run wide into Les Combes, at the end of the Kemmel Straight, they must use the small road in front of the tyre barrier and re-join the circuit prior to Malmedy corner.
