Blomqvist to replace Calado at Jaguar for final races of Season 6

Tom Blomqvist will return to Formula E this week as the British driver replaces James Calado at Jaguar for the final two races of Season 6.

In the run-up to the championship’s six-race showdown in Berlin, it was confirmed that Blomqvist had joined the Jaguar Racing team as its reserve driver, replacing Alex Lynn in the role after the 26-year-old joined Mahindra.

With Calado holding commitments to AF Corse in the FIA World Endurance Championship which races at Spa this weekend, Blomqvist received the call-up to partner Mitch Evans for the final two races of the season.

Blomqvist previously competed for Andretti in Season 4 of the fully-electric series, however, was ditched by the American outfit after only six races in which he took a best result of eighth on debut.

“I am excited to get behind the wheel of the Jaguar I-TYPE 4 for the last couple of races,” said Blomqvist.

“It will be a new layout for those races and a fresh opportunity for everyone. I am looking forward to making my return to Formula E and want to deliver my very best for Mitch and the team.”

For Calado, what was likely to be his final series of races in Formula E started in difficult circumstances after the Briton received a 60-place grid penalty in the first leg in Berlin – a punishment that immediately compounded his week ahead.

Over the two double-headers, he emerged with a best result of 15th in what turned into a difficult spell for the Grove-based team which scored only nine points after previously being in championship contention.

“I would like to thank James for everything he has done for the team this year under incredibly difficult circumstances,” added Team Director James Barclay.

“He is the such a professional driver and I would like to wish him well in Spa this week in his fight for the World Endurance Championship.

“Tom has arrived in Berlin having supported the team over the last week back in the UK at our team base. He has a tough job ahead of him, but he is really up for the challenge.

“His previous Formula E experience and knowledge will stand him in good stead. The whole team look forward to seeing him on track on Wednesday and Thursday.”
