Oliver Rowland has been handed a 20-place grid penalty for the opening round of Formula E’s six-race season finale at the Berlin Tempelhof Circuit.
Following a five-month hiatus in competition as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the fully-electric series returns this week where it will complete the equivalent of half a season of racing in a single nine-day spell.
This sequence of races will see drivers compete on three different circuit configurations of the Berlin track across three double-header events, including a reverse layout and an all-new arrangement.
Rowland, who currently sits in ninth in the Drivers’ Championship for Nissan e.dams has scored points in all but one race in Season 6, however, will start the sixth race of the season from the rear of the field.
This follows a request from his team to change the Inverter [MCU] of the #22 Nissan IM02 car which is in breach of Article 28.4 of the 2019/2020 FIA Formula E Championship Sporting Regulations.
The 27-year-old, who contested his first full Formula E campaign last season, will complete his qualifying run for Round 1 of the Berlin E-Prix in Group 2 – a position that places the three-time pole sitter in an advantageous scenario, given the rapid track evolution in Formula E’s qualifying format.
The first race of Formula E’s showdown – the most intense season finale in the history of motorsport – will take place tomorrow at 19:00 local time.
