Nico Müller has set the quickest time in the only practice session for the DTM season opener at Spa-Francorchamps in a session that was red-flagged due to a crash from Team WRT’s Ferdinand Habsburg.
Müller led the way in Belgium with a time of 02:23:272, nearly seven-tenths up on team-mate Robin Frijns. Marco Wittmann found himself in third place with fastest time of 02:24:888, 1.6s behind Müller.
DTM rookie Robert Kubica had a promising start to his campaign by posting the fourth time, while Jonathan Aberdien completed the top five.
Red flag for Habsburg
The session was red flagged with just under ten minutes remaining when Ferdinand Habsburg crashed his Audi RS5 DTM at Stavelot but managed to walk away unharmed and ended the session in fifteenth.
Neither of Habsburg’s Team WRT team-mates were able to breach the top ten, with newcomers Fabio Scherer and Harrison Newey twelfth and thirteenth respectively.
Reigning champion Rene Rast was quickest towards the end of the session before a flurry of quicker times dropped the German to sixth, a 02:26:725 his best efforts.
The top ten was completed by Timo Glock, Sheldon van der Linde, Mike Rockenfeller and Jamie Green. Loic Duval was eleventh fastest, with Lucas Auer in fourteenth and the running order completed by Philipp Eng in sixteenth place.
