Renault Formula 1 driver Esteban Ocon returned to action on Wednesday as he completed 145 laps of the Red Bull Ring in the marque’s 2018 car.
Renault organised a two-day test at the Red Bull-owned venue, which will host the opening pair of 2020 Formula 1 races next month.
The Austrian Grand Prix on July 5 will be followed by the Styrian Grand Prix on July 12, before the Formula 1 paddock travels to Hungary’s Hungaroring to complete a triple header.
Outgoing Renault driver Daniel Ricciardo completed 115 laps in the R.S.18 on Tuesday before Ocon took over for the second day of the private test.
The car ran in the interim black scheme used during pre-season testing rather than the full race livery that Renault will switch to for the race season.
Ocon is returning to a Formula 1 race seat after spending 2019 as Mercedes’ reserve driver, having previously started 50 grands prix for Manor and Force India.
Racing Point was also in action on Wednesday as Lance Stroll piloted the Mercedes-powered RP20 on Silverstone’s National Circuit.
With Renault and Mercedes – which tested last week – using their respective 2018 cars Stroll’s outing marked the first appearance of a current-spec machine since pre-season testing in February.
AlphaTauri is due to carry out a promotional day with its Honda-powered AT01 at Imola next Wednesday.
