Renault becomes first team to put branded masks up for sale

Formula 1 teams are well-known for marketing and exploiting every possible opportunity when it comes to merchandise.

T-shirts and caps are the most prominent items from clothing ranges that include coats, shorts, jumpers and beanies.

Accessories such as branded umbrellas, pens, bags, mugs, watches and lanyards are sold in order to get logos and sponsors out there.

But the coronavirus pandemic has altered the social landscape and the wearing of masks has become commonplace, with some nations mandating their use on public transport.

Formula 1 will not be allowing spectators to grands prix in the immediate future but Renault has become the first team to offer a new form of support.

The French manufacturer has put black-and-yellow masks, featuring the ‘Renault DP World F1 Team’ name and logo, up for pre-order on its official website.

The masks, also available in Renault’s corporate colours, will retail at €4.99, with a family pack of 10 masks available for €49.99.

The masks are washable and reusable to protect against covid-19 and meet the latest safety standards.

All profits from the sale of the masks will be donated to associations helping the fight against covid-19.

The marque is due to return to Formula 1 action this week after arranging a two-day test to be held in Austria, with Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon getting behind the wheel of its 2018-spec R.S.18.

Renault will use its demonstration team to run the car.
