Maximilian Guenther emerged as the victor in Formula E’s test event for the Race at Home Challenge, beating Mercedes EQ’s Stoffel Vandoorne.
The series, that will raise funds for UNICEF in the global coronavirus appeal, features a unique ‘Race Royale’ format, with the last-placed driver getting eliminated at the end of each lap until 10 remain for a one-lap sprint to the finish.
Guenther, who took pole position, dominated the test event that was held on rFactor 2 in Monaco, leading fellow competitor Vandoorne for the entirety of the 15-lap affair.
Following the top two across the line, Andre Lotterer trailed by some eight seconds to complete the podium, with Nick Cassidy [who stood in for Sam Bird] securing fourth while Nico Muller completed the top five for GEOX Dragon.
Oliver Rowland piloted Nissan e.dams to sixth at the chequered flag as Robin Frijns advanced by an impressive seven positions to take seventh in the second Envision Virgin car.
Mitch Evans trailed the Dutchman in eighth while Jean-Eric Vergne and Jann Mardenborough completed the top 10.
In the Challenge class – reserved for influencers, esports racers and motorsport personalities – Scotsman Graham Carroll emerged as the victor, beating Kevin Siggy and Marc Gassner to victory.
Formula E’s Race at Home Challenge will officially commence next weekend for the opening round of the season where points will be awarded for the top 10 finishers, polesitter, and the driver with the fastest lap in both categories.
