GEOX Dragon has named Joel Eriksson as its test and reserve driver for Season 6 of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, with the Swede set to test for the American outfit in Marrakesh next week.

The 21-year-old entered the single-seater scene in 2014 and emerged as the Rookie of the Year in the 2016 European Formula 3 campaign, taking one victory and 10 podiums before later advancing to the DTM in 2018.

Eriksson previously participated in Formula E’s inaugural Marrakesh rookie test in Season 4, driving for Virgin Racing and will drive GEOX Dragon’s Penske EV-4 package next weekend:

“I am thrilled to get the opportunity to drive a Formula E car again, this time in the Penske Autosport Gen 2 race car,” said Eriksson.

“It’s a championship which is growing every day, and has a very different approach compared with other racing series, but that’s why this championship and car are so interesting.

“I’m very excited for the Marrakesh test and the rest of the season with GEOX Dragon.”

GEOX Dragon team owner Jay Penske commented: “It is critical to have top drivers to maximize the impact of our investments in our facilities, simulation tools, and personnel at both our LA Headquarters and Silverstone Race Shop.

“I am pleased with the work Joel has already done in this regard as he is both a rapid and technically effective young racer.

“I look forward to his test in Marrakesh, and I expect him to continue to provide valuable feedback on the development of this season’s race package.”

After four races of Formula E’s sixth season, GEOX Dragon holds 11th in the Teams’ Championship, recording only two points from four races.
