Suzuki have unveiled an all-new paint scheme for its 2020-spec GSX-RR MotoGP machine to celebrate 60 years of racing for the brand, consisting mainly of silver and blue.
The new livery is a throwback to Suzuki’s first international racing appearance-at the Isle of Man TT back in 1960- and will be run throughout the entire season.
Alex Rins and Joan Mir will continue to compete with the GSX-RR for the second consecutive season together, with Rins keen to add more victory trophies to Suzuki’s cabinet, stating his enhanced ability to “manage a race, especially if I’m leading or fighting” should stand him in good stead.
“Last season brought me one of the most exciting feelings on earth which was to win my first MotoGP race,” said Rins.
“It was a dream come true, and the second victory felt amazing too. I will bring those emotions with me into 2020, as well as the awareness of the growth that I’ve made.
“One of the most important lessons I’ve learnt is how to better manage a race, especially when I’m leading or fighting.
Now in 2020 we have to stay focused and get good results, more podiums for sure and hopefully also more wins. This is the path to success, I believe: little by little, step by step, with hard work all together.”
Mir meanwhile is gunning to take the fight to his more experienced team-mate more often in his sophomore MotoGP campaign, the ’18 Moto3 world champion feeling his strong end to ’19 should allow him to make the progress he needs heading into a fresh season.
“For sure my expectations for 2020 are much higher than last year, because I’m not a rookie anymore,” said Mir.
“We ended last season on a good path, with consistent improvements that helped me to overcome the difficulties that came from the crash in Brno and led me to have some very positive races at the end of the season.
“The first year has been a learning one, the MotoGP machine is such a beast that you have to learn how to control it, and I had huge support from all of my team. Now I want to build on my experience and start placing my name among the top riders.”
Suzuki re-joined the premier class for the ’15 season-with Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales- the latter scoring the Japanese manufacturers first podium since their comeback at the French grand prix in ’16.
He then went one better by scoring victory at Silverstone later that year, while Rins added a further two wins to Suzuki’s tally in the US GP and again in the British GP last year.
