Alexander Sims stormed to a maiden Formula E win with a commanding drive in a chaotic Diriyah E-Prix.

For the second race of the weekend in Saudi Arabia, Sims once again took pole position and led from the outset of the 45-minute + 1 lap race.

Bolting from the front row of the grid, the BMW i Andretti Motorsport driver maintained first for the duration of the race and carefully managed his lead in a race that saw two safety car periods and one Full Course Yellow.

While Sims stood on the top step of the podium, Maximilian Gunther completed a 1-2 result for the BMW team although the 22-year-old is under investigation for the first safety car restart during he which he gained positions before the control line.

Season 3 champion Lucas di Grassi completed the podium while Stoffel Vandoorne delivered another points finish for Formula E newcomers Mercedes EQ by taking fourth.

A competitive drive saw Edoardo Mortara complete the top five for ROKiT Venturi Racing. While Andre Lotterer took sixth on track, a post-race penalty relegated the German to 16th.

This meant that Oliver Rowland took sixth for Nissan e.dams while Nyck de Vries, Oliver Turvey and Daniel Abt took seventh-ninth. James Calado completed the top 10 for Jaguar, taking his first point in Formula E.

Outside of the top 10 it was a double DNF for Envision Virgin Racing, with Race 1 winner Sam Bird getting caught up in two separate incidents with Mitch Evans and Pascal Wehrlein before colliding with the wall. Robin Frijns crashed on his own accord.

It was also a second consecutive non-points scoring result for DS Techeetah, with Jean-Eric Vergne recovering to 11th from 24th on the grid while a drive-through penalty for Antonio Felix da Costa dropped the Portuguese pilot to 13th.
