IMSA reveals 2020 Weathertech Sportscar Championship calendar

IMSA has unveiled the calendar for the 2020 IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship. The 12-race schedule was confirmed at yesterday's 'State of the Series' press conference.

“We’ve said it numerous times in the past, but one of the strongest attributes of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship continues to be the 12 events, facilities and promoter partners that make up our schedule each year,” said IMSA President Scott Atherton.

“There isn’t much in the way of ‘breaking news’ as it relates to our 2020 calendar – it’s the same 12 races on largely the same weekends as in 2019 – but that speaks to the strength of those events and the date equity we’ve earned over the past several years.”

The season kicks off with the traditional Rolex 24 at Daytona, held on January 23-26. All four classes (DPi, LMP2, GTLM and GTD) will compete in the round that also kicks off the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup. Points will not be awarded to LMP2 runners to aid those teams in reducing their operating budgets. After Daytona, all four classes will be in action in Sebring for the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Presented by Advance Auto Parts, held on March 18-21.

After Sebring, DPi and GTLM head for the west coast for the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach weekend, held on April 17-18. This means that both the Sebring and Long Beach events will be held one weekend later than in 2019. The next round at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course will feature all four classes and kick off the WeatherTech Sprint Cup season for the GTD class, and is set to be held on May 1-3.

After Mid-Ohio, DPi and GTD head to Detroit for the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic at Belle Isle on May 29-30, followed by the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen on June 25-28. The championship then heads north of the border to Canadian Tire Motorsports Park on July 3-5, with LMP2 not competing contrary to 2019.

The next three rounds are at Lime Rock Park (July 17-18), Road America (July 31-August 2) and Virginia International Raceway (Aug 21-23). All classes compete at Road America, while Lime Rock and VIR are GT-only rounds.

The season will be closed out with the traditional Motul Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta on October 7-10.
