Front Row Motorsports, which fields three full-time entries in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, has announced a crew chief and crew swap between two of those entries — the #36 driven by Matt Tifft and the #38 driven by David Ragan. The swap pairs crew chief Seth Barbour with Tifft, while Tifft's former crew chief, Mike Kelley, moves to Ragan's car. Each crew chief will take his crew with him in the swap.
FRM also fields a #34 Ford driven by Michael McDowell, but that team remains unchanged.
“Effective today, Front Row Motorsports has selected to switch the crew chiefs and crews for the No. 36 and No. 38 teams of Matt Tifft and David Ragan, respectively,” a statement from Front Row Motorsports on Tuesday read. “ Seth Barbour moves over to lead the No. 36 team, and Mike Kelley takes over the reins of the No. 38. This change in personnel will be in effect this weekend at Pocono and for the remainder of the 2019 season.”
The Cup Series next contends the Gander RV 400 at Pocono Raceway on Sunday.
Ragan and Tifft have struggled in the first 20 races of the 36-race 2019 Cup Series season. Ragan is 30th in the driver points standings, and Tifft is 31st. Each driver has only three top-20 finishes. Combined, they have only one top-10, a ninth by Tifft in a race at Daytona International Speedway earlier this month. Ragan's best finish, so far, this year, was a 15th at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May.
Meanwhile, McDowell is 27th in the standings. He has a seawon-best finish of fifth in the season-opening Daytona 500 in February.
