Daniel Ricciardo says he has already seen a change in attitude from Renault through the opening six months of his time with the team.
Ricciardo spent five years competing for Red Bull, during which time he won seven grands prix, but moved to Renault for 2019.
Renault has not taken a podium as a manufacturer since 2010 while the outfit itself has not finished in the top three since it competed as Lotus in 2013.
But after a slow start to 2019, it has shown signs of improvement, with Ricciardo leading the midfield battle in Canada, having started from the second row of the grid.
“I think the biggest thing and I am seeing it now evolving is that when I went to Red Bull they had just won four straight titles,” said Ricciardo.
“I walked into a team with a certain level of confidence, not arrogance but confidence, which can sometimes be seen as arrogance, they knew that they were the best and everything about them. It was that confidence.
“Here it has taken time to get that and I think even the way the team responds to a fight on track or a good result instead or a little hype it is about getting some fire going and I’ve already seen that transform from the first few races.
“It has been a long time since they’ve had some big results and they probably don’t really expect it.
“Maybe sometimes it is like ‘oh, okay’… they are starting to realise that bigger things are possible and I feel like that is creating more atmosphere in the garage.
“I don’t see everything in the race but if I hear about it like I ask my trainer what happened when I overtook him, he says everyone is jumping up and down.
“That was something where Red Bull was a strong team, strong camaraderie, they really got excited about every situation on track and I think that is because of the level of confidence they had.
“They felt like they belonged there and I am starting to see that more.”
Renault holds fifth place in this year’s Constructors’ Championship, eight points behind McLaren.
