Jean-Eric Vergne set the pace in first practice ahead of this weekend's Bern E-Prix, fronting a 1-2 result for DS Techeetah.

The reigning Formula E champion set a best time of a 1m 19.281s to top the 45-minute session using 250kW of power, with Andre Lotterer in the second DS Techeetah car emerging as his nearest challenger, 0.111s adrift of his team-mate.

Championship contender Lucas di Grassi ended FP1 with the third fastest time of the session after previously setting the pace earlier in the session, 0.159s adrift of Vergne's pace.

Envision Virgin Racing's Robin Frijns secured fourth in FP1 while Mitch Evans completed the top five for Jaguar Racing with 0.463s covering the first quarter of the field.

Daniel Abt was sixth fastest in the second Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler entry, 0.455s slower than team-mate di Grassi, trailing Vergne overall by 0.614s.

Maximilian Gunther demonstrated competitive pace for GEOX Dragon by setting the seventh fastest time home hero Edoardo Mortara emerged as the lead Venturi driver, 0.676s off the pace while team-mate Felipe Massa was only 14th.

Jerome d'Ambrosio followed Mortara in ninth while an impressive run for NIO Formula E's Tom Dillmann saw the Frenchman complete the top 10, lapping the Bern Street Circuit in 1m 20.104s.

Stoffel Vandoorne missed out on the top 10 as the lead HWA Racelab driver, 0.057s adrift of Dillmann while Jose Maria Lopez was 12th, the 2019 Le Mans runner-up having his 250kW run spoiled by extensive traffic.

Alex Lynn followed Lopez in 13th while Massa was 14th. Oliver Rowland completed the top 15 as the fatsest Nissan e.dams driver, with Season 2 champion Sebastien Buemi ending FP1 in 20th, the pair separated by Antonio Felix da Costa, Sam Bird, Pascal Wehrlein and Alexander Sims.

Gary Paffett followed Buemi in 20th, 1.941s off the pace while Oliver Turvey completed the field in the second NIO, a further 0.334s of his fellow countryman of Paffett ahead.

Second practice for the Bern E-Prix will commence at 11:20 local time.
