MotoGP’s Valentino Rossi promises he’ll race in DTM ‘soon’

MotoGP rider Valentino Rossi has made a promise to take part in a DTM race weekend, following Andrea Dovizioso's wildcard entry at Misano.

Through his links to Audi – which owns Ducati – Dovizioso got to race at Misano, finishing 12th on Saturday and 15th on Sunday, where a late spin cost him a better result.

Nonetheless, the Italian enjoyed the experience: "I have really enjoyed the weekend in the DTM. These cars are nice to drive. They have plenty of power, speed and downforce.

"It was very interesting experience, the level of the drivers and the car, it was difficult to manage. Keeping up with drivers at this level is difficult. I couldn't really make a good result, but at the end I wasn't too far off the speed. All in all, however, it was a good experience. I'm really pleased."

Rossi was also invited to take part at Misano by series boss Gerhard Berger, but had to turn the offer down due to other commitments, but has promised to take Berger up on the offer soon.

"I didn't see the race, but I know the result and I followed Dovi," said the six-time MotoGP champion. "It was a great pleasure [to see].

"Gerhard invited me for Misano, but unfortunately this time I couldn't come but I promise one time, not far [in the future], I will come. I will come as a driver."
