Ferrari has lodged an intention to appeal against the time penalty handed out to Sebastian Vettel during Formula 1’s Canadian Grand Prix.
Vettel headed Lewis Hamilton at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve but ran wide at Turn 4 on lap 48 of 70, travelling across the grass run-off in the process.
Stewards deemed that upon re-joining the circuit he did so in an unsafe manner, while also forcing Hamilton to take evasive action.

Vettel was handed a five-second time penalty, and two points on his license, with the time loss resulting in Vettel dropping behind Hamilton at the chequered flag.
The stewards’ report, as usual, confirmed that competitors “have the right to appeal certain decisions, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Article 9.1.1 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time limits.”
The decision by Ferrari to lodge an intention to appeal was confirmed by the FIA on Sunday evening.
In effect, it means Ferrari now has 96 hours in which to come up with any potential new evidence that they can present.
Should Ferrari present new evidence then the stewards will then decide whether the appeal can be formalised.
