Formula E pushing hard for race in Brazil – Felipe Massa

Venturi Formula E’s Felipe Massa has revealed that the ABB FIA Formula E Championship is pushing hard for a race in Brazil.

Formula E was set to race in the South American nation as one of four new venues for Season 4, however, following the privatisation of the planned Anembhi Park venue in Sau Paulo, the race was postponed, poised to make its calendar debut in the series’ present 2018/19 campaign.

Failing to appear on the Season 5 calendar, the proposed Formula E race in Brazil remains absent, however, Massa told Motorsport Week that the all-electric single-seater series remains ambitious and driven to host a race in his home nation.

"[A race in Brazil] is a possibility,” said Massa. “Maybe not for next season but maybe for Season 7 it can be possible.

"What I know is that Formula E is pushing really, really hard to have a race in Brazil. Brazil is quite important for the driver's point of view but also in the electrical and technology business as well.

"It’s very important for the country. I think it would be fantastic. Formula E has many Brazilian drivers, the championship is growing massively. It would be fantastic to have a race there.”

With Formula E next heading to Switzerland for the Bern E-Prix, the series visits its penultimate venue of the 2018/19 campaign ahead of July’s season-closing double-header New York City E-Prix.

Reflecting on his maiden season to date, Massa asserted that Formula E is the championship for him, referencing the series’ close and unpredictable racing week in, week out:

"What I can say is that I chose the right championship,” added the Brazilian.

"I’m really enjoying it. I’m happy to be part of Formula E. The races are really nice and fun. To be here, to be part of this championship, I am 100% sure that I chose the right one.”
