Fernando Alonso claimed victory at the Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps on Saturday and did so via a spin in the third hour.
Alonso, along with team-mates Sebastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima, prevailed in difficult conditions as adverse weather, including snow, struck the Belgian circuit.
Talking to Motorsport Week, the Spaniard admitted it was his error that caused his #8 TS050 Hybrid to spin out at the fast left-hander of Pouhon.
"Yeah, yeah, it was a driver mistake," said Alonso. "I touched the astroturf, and it definitely wasn’t dry and I spun there."
"It was a spin that luckily didn’t have any consequences with the runoff area and it was together with the full course yellow, so with the combination of everything, I didn’t lose much time."
Alonso, who took his second straight win of 2019 with team-mates Buemi and Nakajima, said he found the race to be difficult, but praised his team for dealing with the adverse conditions.
"It was a difficult race. I think with the conditions, changeable, so you need to be ready for anything that may happen."
"And also, the tyre selection was quite difficult, you know, because you never know what tyres to put on. The dry, the inters, the full wets, it was a good call by the team."
The #8 Toyota crew now holds a sizeable 31-point advantage over the sister #7 team with just next month's Le Mans 24 Hours, and 38 points, remaining in the 2018/19 championship.
The #7 Toyota classified only sixth at Spa-Francorchamps due to a sensor issue that left it stranded in the garage for several minutes.
