Mattia Pasini gets second 2019 outing as injured Jake Dixon’s Jerez stand-in

Moto2 race winner Mattia Pasini will replace the injured British Superbike convert Jake Dixon at the Angel Nieto team at this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix.

Dixon is in his debut grand prix season in 2019 with the former Aspar outfit, having spent two full seasons in BSB with the Lee Hardy Racing Kawasaki team, where he was a multiple race winner and title contender.

The Briton has endued a pointless start to his season thus far, and was forced to miss the race in Texas after suffering a concussion in a crash during practice.

While checks in America ruled out any further injury, Dixon has been advised by his doctors to sit out the Jerez race to continue his recovery.

Pasini, who missed out on a full-time ride for 2019 and was called up to replace the injured Augusto Fernandez at Pons in Texas – where he finished fourth on his first time on the Triumph engine – will take Dixon's place.

“I am very happy to be riding at Jerez,” said Pasini.

“It will be a different race to Austin because I am changing bikes and I have never ridden a KTM before.

“Hopefully I can find a good feeling quickly and I will work hand in hand with the team from the first moment to see what result we can aim for.

“I think we can do well but we will see how it goes over the weekend.

“I want to say thanks to Jorge Martínez “Aspar” and KTM for this opportunity and I will give my all during the weekend to see what we can achieve together.”

Pasini previously rode for the Aspar team in the 2006 125cc season, where he managed two wins on his way to fourth in the standings aboard an Aprilia.

He ended his final full Moto2 campaign last year with the Italtrans team ninth overall, having won in Argentina.
