Indianapolis Motor Speedway has confirmed 28 drivers will take part in the NTT IndyCar Series open test on April 24 as preparations begin ahead of the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500.
The day will be broken up into specific time slots with the series' established drivers hitting the track from 11am-1pm ET, rookie orientation programmes will commence from 1pm-3pm and all drivers will be permitted onto the track from 3pm-6pm.
The circuit has confirmed the public will be able to attend the test and get a view of the day's action from the mounds at Turn 2; those who are not at the test can watch online at IndyCar.com with regular pitlane reporters Kevin Lee, Katie Hargitt, Anders Krohn and veteran Robin Miller.
Fernando Alonso will be there with his McLaren-Chevrolet as prepares to take on the race for the second time in his search for the 'triple crown'. He recently shook down the car at Texas Motor Speedway.
Sage Karam will get his first run of the year for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing. Ed Carpenter will head out on the track as he assumes the #20 car from Ed Jones for the month of May. Conor Daly will also be heading out in the fifth Andretti Autosport machine.
Three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves makes a return to Team Penske for the oval test; it will be his first time in the car since the 'Spring Training' test at the Circuit of the Americas in February.
Despite having already confirmed entries to the 103rd running of the Indy 500, there are some notable absentees from the testing entry list which include a third car for Carlin's Patricio O'Ward, Pippa Mann in the Clauson-Marshall entry, James Davison for Dale Coyne Racing with Byrd-Hollinger-Belardi, Rahal-Letterman-Lanigan's third car for Jordan King and Ben Hanley for DragonSpeed.
