Formula E stewards will clamp down on contact from this weekend's Rome EPrix in an effort to reduce the number of clashes and comes in response to complaints that drivers aren't being punished consistently.
The drivers were informed on Friday during a briefing that a verbal warning will be given for light contact and should a second occurence happen, then it would result in an automatic penalty.
Meanwhile harder contact, such as a race ending impact or contact that seriously impacts a rivals race, will result in an immediate sanction.
The stewards have several options at their disposal, from a time penalty to a drive-through and even disqualification.
Contact in FE has increased in Season Five and it's believed the fact that the new Gen 2 car is more robust has led to drivers taking more chances, without fear that their car will be heavily damaged.
However some have likened this to 'bumper cars' or 'touring cars', not single-seater racing which is supposed to be a non-contact sport, hence why this action has only now been taken.
