Santino Ferrucci hopes to have a strong race at Barber Motorsports Park in this weekends Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama.
The 20-year old American placed in the top 10 of the season opener in St. Petersburg, and ran strongly in the recent race at Circuit of the Americas, before damper damage caused by being pushed off track mid-race hindered his run to the flag.
Following a recent test session at the circuit, Ferrucci expressed optimism about his chances at the race given the data he and his Dale Coyne racing team have been able able to analyse.
“We were able to test at Barber last month, and it was a very helpful test for us,” said Ferrucci.
“I had never been there before, so it allowed me to learn the track and helped us figure out how to implement my set up, my driving style, to produce competitive lap times.”
The Woodbury, Connecticut native also talked about how the circuit bought back memories of his Formula 3 days, with the Alabama track reminded him of the Zandvoort circuit in the Netherlands.
“The Barber Motorsports Park track kind of reminds me of a European track called Zandvoort,” recalled Ferrucci. “It’s really exciting with a lot of elevation changes.
“I think we might have found something interesting for the race weekend. We’ll see how we match up with the other cars on track when official practice begins, but I’m very excited to get going there.”
