Dreyer & Reinbold Racing has confirmed Sage Karem will return to the team for the 2019 Indianapolis 500.
Karam will once again drive the #24 WIX Filters entry for the prestigious event for the fourth consecutive season – fifth overall, his best finish came in 2014 where he ended the race in ninth place.
WIX Filters and DRR also enter their seventh year in partnership with each other.
Without a part or full-time drive since 2015 where he drove a partial season with Chip Ganassi. The 2013 Indy Lights champion is still trying to secure more races with DRR to try and complete a part-time season, eventually progressing to a full-time entry.
The Pennsylvanian driver stated ensuring a deal for the Indy 500 was always the first priority.
“That’s been our goal," said Karam. "To see how we can take an Indy 500 program to the next level and maybe run a half season to full season at some point.
"I’ve been working hard with them to see what we can do. The first line of business is always to get the Indy 500 deal done.
"Everything else after that is what we’re shooting for. A lot of it comes down to how we run at the speedway.
"For a small team, if you do see me do additional races, it would be more of the street circuits and permanent (road) circuits because the ovals are a bit higher risk."
"We just need some luck on our side and I think we can have a really, really good result at the speedway. If we get that good result, then it can make it a lot easier for sponsors to hop back on board to do some additional races."
