Niko Kari will race for Trident in this year’s FIA Formula 3 Championship.
The ex-Red Bull junior competed in GP3 for most of last year but curtailed his campaign early to make handful of starts in Formula 2 during the latter races.
For 2019 Kari will contest the new Formula 3 championship with Trident.
“I am excited to race under the Trident banner in the 2019 Formula 3 championship,” said the 19-year-old.
“I am sure that we will reach absolute-level results together.
“I have been in touch with the Milan-based team for years. We enjoyed some great testing sessions at the end of the last season at Abu Dhabi and there are now the right conditions to work together.
“The team is extremely high-level, technically and from a human standpoint, and I am sure there will be chemistry needed to experience a front-running season. I cannot wait to be on track.”
Trident has yet to confirm Kari’s team-mates for 2019.
