Alexander Albon received his maiden Formula 1 outing on Wednesday as part of a filming day with Toro Rosso.
Albon finished third in last year’s Formula 2 championship and shortly after the long-anticipated news of his graduation to Formula 1 with Toro Rosso was confirmed.
But he was not able to participate in the post-race Abu Dhabi test with the team, with the returning Daniil Kvyat and tester Sean Gelael instead undertaking duties.
Albon has already undertaken simulator work in order to get as acclimatised as possible with his new Formula 1 team, having been extricated from his planned Formula E move with Nissan to make the step up.
Toro Rosso launched its STR14 online on Monday and on Wednesday took the Honda-powered car to Italian venue Misano for a shakedown.
Kvyat gave the car its on-track debut before Albon took the wheel after lunch, enabling him to get up to speed with Toro Rosso's 2019 challenger prior to the official start of testing in Spain on Monday.
Albon was the only driver on the 2019 grid without prior experience of Formula 1 machinery.
Formula 1 teams are permitted two filming days per year, in which running is limited to 100km, while Pirelli’s promotional tyres must be used.
Toro Rosso was one of a handful of teams in action today, with Mercedes and Red Bull carrying out a filming day on different layouts at Silverstone
