Rebellion Racing have announced the signing of Frenchman Nathanaël Berthon for the remainder of the 2018-2019 WEC 'Super Season', as well as the full 2019-2020 season.
Berthon, who competed in WTCR in 2018, joins the #3 car, currently driven by Thomas Laurent, Gustavo Menezes and Mathias Beche. The Frenchman started his career in single seater racing, but has been gathering experience in sportscars. He currently has five Le Mans starts to his name. In 2018, Berthon set the fastest racing lap in LMP2 with Dragonspeed.
“I am very happy that Rebellion's LMP1 team trusts me," said the Frenchman. "The idea of participating in the World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice, in 2019 and in 2020, with a team and a car playing to win, is a great source of motivation for me."
Calim Bouhadra, Rebellion vice-president, added: “We are delighted to welcome Nathanaël Berthon to the Rebellion Racing family. I would like to thank Olivier Panis (Berthon's manager) who allowed us to be in touch with Nathanaël and to obtain his services.
"Personally, that's exactly what I love about endurance: that spirit of fellowship and fraternity. Olivier knows Nathanael very well, knows his value, and that has convinced us that he is the right driver for us to be even stronger against tough opponents like Toyota. I am sure he will be successful with us.”
The next round of the World Endurance Championship is the 1000 Miles of Sebring on March 15th. It is not yet clear who Berthon will be replacing in the #3 line-up.
