IndyCar has announced NTT (Nippon Telegraph and Telecom) will become the new title sponsor of the series after signing a multi-year deal.
The American single-seater series had been previously sponsored by the telecommunications company, Verizon since 2014 with its five-year deal ending at the end of the 2018 season.
The Japanese telecoms giant began its relationship with the Chip Ganassi Racing team in 2013 for an Indianapolis 500 entry with Ryan Briscoe. Following the race, NTT Data maintained an associate partnership with Ganassi on the # 83 entry of Charlie Kimball.
The partnership has since continued with CGR sponsoring Briscoe in 2014, Tony Kanaan from 2015-2017 and Ed Jones in 2018. Sweden's Felix Rosenqvist will be in the #10 entry alongside reigning five-time series champion Scott Dixon for the 2019 campaign.
It is understood the title sponsorship will or IndyCar will not affect the deal with the Chip Ganassi team moving forward.
NTT is one of the largest IT services companies in the world, based in Tokyo, Japan. Originally formed as a national telecoms company in 1952, it was then taken private in 1985 and grown worldwide ever since.
"Having a strong technology partner is critically important to INDYCAR's continued growth, so we are thrilled to welcome NTT as our new title sponsor," said series CEO Mark Miles.
"INDYCAR's rise in popularity is a testament to the fact that we've made the sport as accessible as possible to our fans and we plan to continue in that mission.
"We have a history with NTT through NTT DATA's involvement in the sport with Chip Ganassi Racing. We know this partnership will help us attract the next generation of fans to what remains the most competitive racing program on the planet."
