Raffaele Marciello will make his Formula E debut in Morocco next weekend, driving for HWA Racelab in the all-electric single seater series' Marrakesh rookie test.
Marciello, 24, enjoyed a successful 2018 campaign, becoming the Drivers' Champion of the Blancpain GT Series driving for the Mercedes-AMG AKKA ASP team.
The Italian's scheduled test outing with HWA Racelab marks his return to single-seater racing, with the driver winning the European Formula 3 championship in 2013 before racing in the GP2 Series from 2014-2016, finishing in a best position of fourth in the Drivers' Standings.
Marciello was also a member of Ferrari's young driver scheme and sampled the Scuderia's Formula 1 machinery, along with other test and practice outings for Sauber.
“This will be my first outing in a Formula E car and I will also be driving for HWA Racelab for the first time,” he said.
“I am really looking forward to it. I will try to help the team as much as possible and to learn as much as I can during the test. I can hardly wait to get in the car.”
Daniel Juncadella will join Marciello in the second of three scheduled in-season tests during the 2018/19 campaign, carrying out his duties as the team's test and development driver.
HWA Racelab Team Principal Ulrich Fritz believes that the experience that both Marciello and Juncadella will bring to the team will be valuable, aiding the squad as Formula E's newest team which made its debut in Ad Diriyah last month.
“We are pleased to announce Raffaele and Daniel as our test drivers for Marrakesh," he added.
“Raffaele has been closely associated with our team for a long time. In recent years, he has shown his class in GT racing. Prior to that, he was European Formula 3 champion with one of our engines in 2013.
“With his experience, I am confident that he will provide us with valuable input at the test. The same obviously goes for our official test and development driver, Dani.”
The Marrakesh rookie test will take place on January 13, one day after the Marrakesh E-Prix.
