Charouz Racing System’s Juan Manuel Correa clocked the quickest time during the second day of post-season Formula 2 testing at Yas Marina on Friday.
Formula 2 has stayed on in Abu Dhabi for three days of running, split across two sessions, featuring some 2018 racers and several graduates from other championships.
Correa, who placed 12th in this year’s GP3 Series, set a time of 1:49.958 during the closing stages of the afternoon/evening session to finish 0.208s clear of Prema’s Mick Schumacher.
Schumacher edged Russian Time returnee Luca Ghiotto by just 0.002s while 2019 McLaren F1 reserve Sergio Sette Camara placed fourth for DAMS.
Nobuharu Matsushita, returning to the championship with Carlin following a year’s absence, was fifth, in front of Jack Aitken, who joined pacesetter Correa at Charouz.
Thursday’s quickest driver, Louis Deletraz, linked up once more with Carlin and took seventh, in front of Dorian Boccolacci, testing for the team with which he raced in 2018 – MP Motorsport.
GP3 runner-up Nikita Mazepin took ninth for ART Grand Prix while Ferrari protégé Callum Ilott tested for Trident and rounded out the top 10, just over half a second down on Correa.
Elsewhere confirmed 2019 drivers Nyck de Vries (ART) and Sean Gelael (Prema) placed 12th and 14th respectively, while GP3 champion Anthoine Hubert led the morning session for MP Motorsport.
Hubert, who spun and stopped at Turn 8 in the second session, wound up 17th overall on the combined timesheets.
