Daniel Ticktum dominated proceedings at the 65th running of the famous Macau Grand Prix to claim his second win around the historic Guia circuit.
The Red Bull junior driver led from start to finish and despite numerous interruptions with safety cars and an hour-long red-flag period, Ticktum could not be caught.
Once the race had been restarted after the lengthy safety car period, which was caused by a sickening crash involving Van Amersfoort Racing’s Sophia Floersch, who was launched into the catch fencing at the Lisboa corner.
Ticktum was able to lead the field away, Sweden’s Joel Eriksson had one opportunity a few laps from the end to get alongside the 19-year old into Lisboa, but couldn’t force a mistake from the British driver.
Eriksson fought past the Carlin of Sacha Fenestraz on the restart after the red flag, but had no answer for Ticktum and had to settle for second ahead of Fenestraz at the finish.
HitechGP’s Jake Hughes moved past the second Carlin of Callum Ilott on the restart after the red flag followed by the SJM Theodore Prema of Mick Schumacher who nearly past Hughes in a three-wide move into Lisboa before Hughes slammed the door shut on the exit.
Hughes couldn’t then keep up with the leading trio, ending the race in fourth with Schumacher following in behind for fifth place.
The Estonian pair of Ralf Aron and Juri Vips battled hard with the rivals around them but ultimately couldn’t make any further moves forward – crossing the line sixth and seventh respectively.
Ilott initially started the race in third place, however, he lost the place to Fenestraz on the opening lap after a poor getaway from his grid slot leaving him vulnerable through Mandarin into Lisboa where the Frenchman forced his way past and also past Eriksson. There were further interruptions to the race which compromised the Carlin driver, dropping him down the order to finish eighth.
The SJM Theodore Prema pair of Marcus Armstrong and Robert Shwartzman rounded out the top 10.
