Juncos Racing is pushing forward with plans to run a potential two-car effort for the 2019 IndyCar season.
In a recent social media post, Juncos Racing shared pictures of a DW12 Dallara chassis in the process of being put together.
Juncos Racing made its IndyCar debut with two entries at the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 in 2017. In 2018 a single Juncos entry competed in 12 of the 17 races – shared by three drivers in form of Rene Binder (six races), Alfonso Celis Jr. (two) and Kyle Kaiser (four).
Team owner Ricardo Juncos is aiming to have at least one full-time car running in 2019, however, if for a third consecutive year they are forced to continue running a part-time season, the focus will turn to having both cars share selected race weekends to help overall development for the team.
"The second car is going to be ready probably this week," Juncos told IndyCar.com. "We'll be ready to operate so that way we have two cars ready if the situation is needed. At the moment, we want to be able to open it up to two cars. That's why we are doing this."
"I think based on what we did [in the Indianapolis 500] with Kaiser, running only one car and qualifying 17th this year was really good. That's obviously given us a good opportunity now going forward with a lot of interest from drivers to race with us.
"I want to make sure we do, if anything, the [Indy] 500 with both cars. That's the idea and that's why we went ahead and [prepared the second car], so we're ready to operate two cars at once and offer that to drivers."
"When we finish the second Indy car, the IndyCar team is ready to go for whenever the opportunity shows up, either from sponsors or driver's funds, and we will start testing.
"But the plan is to do something in January or February, so that's pretty much what's going on."
