Jakub Kornfeil snatched his maiden Moto3 pole away from Fabio Di Giannantonio at the end of qualifying for the Czech Grand Prix.
The Gresini team has enjoyed a stranglehold on qualifying in Moto3 this season courtesy of Jorge Martin, with the Spaniard registering six poles this season.
With Martin absent through injury, teammate Di Giannantonio made his bid to continue Gresini's qualifying domination early in the 40-minute session with a lap of 2:08.647s to take over top spot.
Aron Canet put his EG 0,0 Honda ahead of Di Giannantonio with a 2:08.556s, but the Italian once again reclaimed provisional pole with a lap 0.083 seconds quicker than Canet's.
Di Giannantonio's time remained unchallenged as the session entered its dying stages, and the Italian left pitlane too late to get one more flying lap in.
As well as Di Giannantonio, provisional front row starter Canet and Gabriel Rodrigo also took the chequered flag before beginning their final laps.
Meanwhile, Kornfeil just made it across the line for one final effort, and lit up the timing screens in the two of John McPhee.
Despite having to navigate his way around the Scotsman, the Prustel GP rider extended his time advantage across the lap and crossed the line with a lap of 2:07.981s to take his first ever Moto3 pole position.
McPhee was almost half a second adrift in second aboard his CIP KTM, while Best Capital KTM's Marcos Ramirez clambered onto the front row in third.
Friday pacesetter Philipp Oettl was just a few seconds behind Kornfeil and McPhee, and managed to leap up to fouth ahead of Di Giannantonio and Canet.
Rodrigo found himself shuffled back from third to seventh in the end, while Nakarin Athiratphuvapat took his best dry qualifying result in eighth ahead of Niccolo Antonelli and Enea Bastianini. Second in the championship, seven points from Martin, Marco Bezzecchi was 1.1s from teammate Kornfeil in 14th.
Japanese duo Ayumu Sasaki [28th] and Tatsuki Suzuki [27th] were early fallers in qualifying. The former was taken to the medical centre for checks following a highside at Turn 5, but was able to return to the session in the clossing stages.
