Charles Leclerc leads Sauber 1-2 in wet Hockenheim FP3

Charles Leclerc led a Sauber 1-2 during the final practice session for the German Grand Prix, held in extremely wet conditions at Hockenheim.

The hot and sunny weather enjoyed by Formula 1 teams on Friday gave way to a downpour on Saturday morning, as consistent heavy rainfall drenched the circuit.

Just a handful of drivers completed a couple of laps in the early stages of running, with only Nico Hulkenberg setting a timed effort, as the track fell silent until the last 10 minutes.

Top spot exchanged hands across the remaining minutes of the session as Leclerc – despite running wide at Turn 8 – Sergey Sirotkin and Sebastian Vettel lowered the benchmark.

Leclerc sealed the position with a time of 1:34.577 which left him 0.423s clear of Sauber team-mate Marcus Ericsson.

Sirotkin was third for Williams, while Vettel and Pierre Gasly both had spins en route to fourth and fifth respectively.

Brendon Hartley, erstwhile leader Hulkenberg, Kimi Raikkonen and Lance Stroll were the only other drivers to record a lap time.

The other 11 drivers all ventured out on track for a brief run, though opted against setting a timed effort, with Carlos Sainz Jr. spinning exiting Turn 10, before recovering to the pits.

Qualifying will begin at 14:00 local time
