The MotorLand Aragon circuit in Spain will rename Turn 10 in honour of four-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez at this year's event in September.
Aragon has been a permanent fixture on the MotoGP calendar since 2010, when it was chosen as replacement for the failed Hungarian Grand Prix due to be staged at the Balatonring.
Marquez has won at the Spanish circuit four times across the Moto2 and MotoGP classes, and holds the record for most podium finishes at Aragon added a further second-place finish to his tally.
A six-time pole position winner at the circuit to boot, Marquez says Aragon is one of his “favourite” tracks.
“I feel very comfortable there, and it's one of my most favourite tracks in the world,” he said.
“The first and last sector of MotorLand are quite technical and you have to work well on the set-up of the bike to have a good step on the curve.
“All the people of Lerida go to Aragon instead of Montmelo because they live a little bit closer.”
Turn 10 is a long left-hander which follows the 'reverse corkscrew' downhill chicane in the second sector of the track.
Details on the unveiling ceremony are scarce, with it set to take place on Thursday September 20, a day before the Aragon Grand Prix weekend kicks off with free practice on the Friday.
Marquez will be just the second current rider to have had a corner named after them, with future Honda teammate Jorge Lorenzo having the final turn at Jerez renamed in his honour in 2013.
Famously, Marquez collided with Lorenzo at that very corner during the final lap of the Spanish Grand Prix that year to snatch second away from the then-Yamaha rider.
Double world champion Casey Stoner – whom Marquez replaced at Honda in 2013 – had Turn 3 at Phillip Island renamed in his honour during his last Australian Grand Prix appearance in 2012.
Marquez currently leads the 2018 standings by 41 points after clinching his fourth win of the year in a thrilling Dutch TT two weeks ago, and heads to the Sachsenring this weekend looking for his ninth-successive German Grand Prix victory.
