Marc Marquez headed Maverick Vinales to top a tight third MotoGP practice at Assen, in which the top five were split by just 0.062 seconds.
Improvements on Friday times were few and far between for much of the cooler FP3, with Maverick Vinales' 1:33.378s from FP2 remaining as the benchmark.
FP1 pacesetter Marquez set the early benchmark on the individual timesheets at 1:34.635s, which Pramac's Danilo Petrucci usurped moments later with a 1:34.571s.
Marquez returned to the top of the standings with a 1:34.415s, while Honda stablemate Cal Crutchlow put his LCR RC213V into second and just 0.002 seconds down.
With half the session gone, only Avintia duo Tito Rabat and Xavier Simeon had improved on their Friday times in 15th and 24 respectively.
Marquez – focusing on the medium/medium combination as he evaluates its performance against the hard compounds he ran on Friday – upped his pace to a 1:34.098s with just over 20 minutes to go, with Aprilia's Aleix Espargaro cutting his half a second deficit down to just a tenth late on.
With five minutes remaining, Yamaha's Valentino Rossi was the first big mover on the combined times, going top in FP3 with a 1:33.558s and third overall, with Crutchlow moving up to fourth.
Crutchlow then took over top spot with a 1:33.347s, though this was soon beaten by Marquez with a 1:33.341s, with Vinales just 0.001s outside of his time.
Marquez remained unchallenged through to the chequered flag, with Vinales and Crutchlow completing a top three covered by 0.006s,with Rossi and Suzuki's Andrea Iannone close behind to round out the top five.
Jorge Lorenzo ended FP3 sixth, though he was unable to improve on his FP2 best and is seventh overall, with 13th-placed Ducati stablemate Petrucci sixth on the combined times.
Andrea Dovizioso was also failed to better his Friday time in FP3, and clung onto a place in Q2 by just half a tenth from KTM's Pol Espargaro in 10th on the combined times.
A late improvement to seventh on the individual times by Aprilia's Aleix Espargaro knocked his KTM-mounted brother out of Q2, with Alvaro Bautista sneaking into the top 10 to cement his place in the pole shootout session.
Tech3's Johann Zarco will join Espargaro and Pramac's Jack Miller in Q1, with Dani Pedrosa facing the first part of qualifying for the third race in a row on his factory Honda.
Marc VDS' Franco Morbidelli was taken to the medical centre following a fast crash at Turn 7 20 minutes into the session. He was 20th in FP3.
