Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler's Lucas di Grassi led the way in first practice ahead of qualifying for the inaugural Zurich E-Prix.
Di Grassi, Formula E's reigning champion, set a best time of a 1m 11.995s using 200kW of power, leading Jaguar Racing's Mitch Evans by 1.143s at the front of the field after the 45-minute-long session.
Daniel Abt, who has re-signed for Audi Sport for Season Five, was third fastest, 1.397s adrift of his team-mate while inaugural Formula E champion Nelson Piquet Jr was fourth fastest in the second Jaguar, 0.006s adrift of the third-placed Audi.
Oliver Turvey, who made brief contact with the wall in the session, completed the top five for NIO while championship hopeful Sam Bird was sixth fastest, setting a 1m 13.571s lap on his 14th tour of the circuit.
In the session, Bird fell victim to an ill-timed spin, spinning his DS Virgin car half-way through the session on a straight while running close behind Jose Maria Lopez, knocking his steering out of alignment after being caught out by his former Season Three team-mate who was on a slower lap.
Jean-Eric Vergne, who could become Formula E's fourth champion in four years this weekend, was seventh fastest for Techeetah, 0.008s behind Bird while Felix Rosenqvist was eighth fastest for Indian marque Mahindra Racing.
Home-favourite Sebastien Buemi was ninth fastest for Renault e.dams, 1.769s adrift of di Grassi's pace while Lopez completed the top 10 for Dragon Racing.
Outside of the top 10, Andre Lotterer was 11th fastest in the second Techeetah while home-favourite Edoardo Mortara was 16th for Venturi, leading Nick Heidfeld, who is a resident of Zurich, in 17th.
Luca Filippi set the slowest time of the session for NIO, 2.947s adrift of di Grassi's practice-topping pace.
