Daniel Abt will remain at Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler for Season Five where he will partner reigning Formula E champion Lucas di Grassi for a fifth consecutive season.
After taking a grand slam with pole position, fastest lap and the race win on home turf at last month's Berlin E-Prix, Abt was able to bolster his position in Formula E's present Season Four campaign.
With his victory in Germany marking his second win this season, it emerged post-race that the driver was not contracted with Audi for the start of the 2018/19 season which is set to commence in December.
Ahead of this weekend's Zurich E-Prix, it was revealed by Audi team principal Allan McNish that Abt will remain with the German marque for Season Five where partnering di Grassi, ending speculation about the German driver's future.
"Daniel [Abt] was brought in through the team and the way we took it over but for us, it was very clear that he was a driver for the long term and not just the short-term and so I'm very pleased that he'll be with us as well in Season Five so you'll see Lucas di Grassi, Daniel Abt as our driver line-ups coming forward into Season Five as well," said McNish.
"It's important for me, it's an important next step, it's great to be here again next season. I've always said I want to continue with Audi, continue in Formula E so it's good," Abt told Motorsport Week.
Season Five, which will be a revolutionary year for Formula E, will see the introduction of the championship's all-new Gen2 car which is capable of speeds of up to 190mph while the series' mid-race car switch will be removed, courtesy of a new longer-lasting battery developed by McLaren Applied Technologies.
When told that he will be partnering Abt in Season Five by Motorsport Week, di Grassi was happy with Audi's decision to maintain its current driver lineup:
"He's [Abt] a great team-mate, great driver, evolved a lot. Very few people have trust in him in the first seasons but he improved and learned and this season he proved that he can win races," he said.
"We have a very strong team. We are showing it. We are second in the championship in the teams, even with a really bad start so I think we can be very strong next year."
