The organisers of the Canadian Grand Prix have unveiled their own mascot for this weekend's Formula 1 race in the form of "Vroum", a giant groundhog.
Formula 1 has begun introducing mascots at races as part of a drive to entertain younger fans and organisers this weekend have chosen a groundhog as the large rodent is common in the country and often seen scuttling across the track during live sessions.
"Our mascot will surely please families who will come to Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve," commented president and CEO of the Canadian GP, Francois Dumontier.
"Its addition to our team is meant to be an interesting way for all generations to identify with our event, as well as an amusing representation of a Formula 1 Grand Prix held in the setting of Parc Jean-Drapeau."
'Vroum' will not only be visible at the circuit this weekend but also during various events around Montreal ahead of the race.
