BMW has completed its first test run with the new Gen2 Formula E car that is set to join the grid later this year for the start of season five.
Digital renders of the Gen2 car were released at the end of January before the covers were taken off the physical car at the Geneva Motor Show in March, with the 'Batmobile'-like machine replacing the championship's current Spark SRT 01E spec car.
For the past year, BMW has been working very closely with Andretti and will increase its presence at the American outfit for the 2018/19 season to become a works team.
BMW, along with fellow manufacturer NIO, skipped Formula E's first season five manufacturer test earlier this month, meaning that Tom Blomqvist's running of the BMW iFE.18, which took place at its Driving Academy site at Maisach, marks the car's on-track debut.
"The BMW iFE.18 is a milestone for our company. After months of excellent collaboration between the engineers from production and racing development, we can all now see the result in action," said Jens Marquardt, BMW director of motorsport.
"This Formula E project has seen the most remarkable technology transfer between production and motorsport in the history of BMW. Everyone involved has breathed life into the ‘TechLab for BMW i’ motto from the word go.
"I can hardly wait to see the car racing for the first time in the BMW i Motorsport colours when Season 5 gets going," he added.
Another Formula E test in preparation for season five will be conducted following this weekend's Rome ePrix, this time in Calafat, Spain from April 17-19. BMW will be present.
