Russian Time retains Artem Markelov, recruits Honda-backed Tadasuke Makino

Reigning Formula 2 Teams’ Champions Russian Time will continue to field series veteran Artem Markelov in 2018, and he will be joined by Honda protégé Tadasuke Makino.

Russian Time was initially not included on the provisional 2018 entry list, but championship organisers confirmed its presence on the grid in Thursday’s finalised version.

Markelov stepped up to the series under its GP2 guise in 2014 with Russian Time and last year claimed five victories as he finished runner-up to Sauber-bound Charles Leclerc.

Makino, meanwhile, finished 15th in last year’s European Formula 3 championship, his first season of competition outside of his native Japan, before sampling F2 machinery with Russian Time in Abu Dhabi's post-season test.

“We had a strong season in 2017 when I won five times and finished second to Charles Leclerc in the championship, so it would be nice to go one better,” said Markelov.

Added Makino: “I started karting at five and always had a dream to race in motor sport’s top category.

“I am now another step closer to that. I’m really looking forward to racing with last year’s champion team, Russian Time.

“Thank you to all the fans and everyone who has supported me. I’m hoping to meet everyone's expectations.”
