Billy Monger took a major step in his road to recovery today after getting acquainted with British F3 machinery for Carlin.
After suffering life-threatening injuries in April 2017 during an F4 race at Donington, Monger’s lower legs were partially amputated. Riding on a wave of support from all corners of the motorsport community, the young Brit vowed to race again upon his release from medical care and just a few weeks later, in early July, was behind the wheel of a competition Volkswagen Beetle adapted with hand controls at Brands Hatch.
Since then, he has continued his rehabilitation programme, visited the Formula 1 paddock and participated in numerous media engagements.
In January of this year, he was also able to take a Jaguar F-Type out for a spin in anger as part of a stunt driving squad at the Autosport International show. All of this attention and amazing experiences, however, did not distract Monger from his ultimate goal: getting back on the motorsport ladder where he left off and climbing it with ferocious determination.
Today, that goal seems closer than ever after Monger got up close and personal with a BRDC British F3 car for Carlin, one of the biggest names in junior formula racing. The young driver broke the news with a picture on social media.
“Proud to be part of your journey and hopeful we will join the BRDC British F3 2018 grid together!”, responded the team.
