M-Sport has confirmed that Teemu Suninen will join the squad for eight rounds of the World Rally Championship in 2018.
The 23-year-old will join Sébastien Ogier and Elfyn Evans in a third Ford Fiesta at round two in Sweden. He will also compete on gravel rounds in Mexico, Portugal and Italy during the first half of the season.
His home event in Finland will lead into more dirt rounds in Turkey and Great Britain, before his year ends on mixed surface roads in Spain.
The Finnish driver impressed in his rookie season last year when he drove for M-Sport in Poland and Finland, finishing sixth and fourth respectively, even winning SS7 during the former rally.
“The plan is to start those rallies in a relaxed state of mind," said Suninen. "There’s no now or never situation or anything like that and no need to focus on our position in the drivers’ championship. We’ll just take it rally by rally and make the most of every event we do.
“We need to ensure we make the most of this opportunity, and that is exactly what we plan to do. I’m really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of a top-specification world rally car and aim to learn as much as I can.”
Suninen will also compete in Monte Carlo and Germany in the WRC 2 support category.
M-Sport announced earlier this week that Bryan Bouffier would join the squad for Monte Carlo and Corsica.
