Sebastian Vettel sure Ferrari will bounce back in Singapore

Sebastian Vettel believes Ferrari “should go better” at this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix, off the back of its disappointing performance at its home event in Italy.

Vettel finished over half a minute behind title rival Lewis Hamilton at Monza, as Mercedes wrapped up a 1-2 on Ferrari’s home turf, and consequently lost the lead of the championship for the first time in 2017.

However, the layout of the Marina Bay Street Circuit is expected to be more conducive to the strengths of Ferrari’s SF70-H and Vettel, a four-time victor of the event, is optimistic that the team can bounce back strongly.

“Not winning was obviously not the best we could get,” Vettel said, reflecting on Monza.

“All the same, I believe in this team and that’s why, when I was on the podium, I told the fans that we were on our way.

“Here [in Singapore], in theory we should go better.

“We will see and our aim is obvious. There are still many races to go and plenty of time to score points.

“It’s not easy to overtake here, but I like this track.

“In terms of duration, it’s the longest race of the season and while it’s one you look forward to all year, at the same time, you don’t want it to come, because you are aware of just how difficult it is.”

Team-mate Kimi Räikkönen added: “We will start practice tomorrow and only then will we see the situation.

“There’s always work to do on various areas at every place we go racing and we always find things that need improving.”
