Carlin’s Lando Norris underlined his Formula 3 title prospects with a dominant display in wet conditions at the Nürburgring.
The McLaren-backed youngster cruised away from pole position and opened a 2.6-second lead by the end of the opening lap, which grew to 17.5 seconds by the chequered flag.
It was Norris’ eighth victory of the campaign, as he stretched his title advantage over Maximilian Günther to 36 points, as the Prema driver finished outside of the top 10.
Günther started from fourth position but suffered front-wing damage on the opening lap and was forced into the pits for repairs.
The German driver emerged back on track in 18th position and recovered only to 13th spot, failing to score a point for only the second time this season.
Hitech’s Jake Hughes held a lonely second position, with a 17-second advantage over Joey Mawson, who prevailed over Tadasuke Makino and Callum Ilott in a scrap for the final podium spot.
Ferdinand Habsburg and Jehan Daruvala finished sixth and seventh, ahead of Mick Schumacher, Guan Yu Zhou and Joel Eriksson, whose slim title hopes took another blow.
Eriksson, who headed the standings earlier in the campaign, is now 79 points adrift of Norris, with just eight races remaining this season.
Debutants Sacha Fenestraz and Max Defourny both showed glimpses of potential before making errors in the tricky conditions.
Fenestraz qualified fourth and ran among the podium challengers but clipped Nikita Mazepin on the approach to Turn 1, sending the Russian spinning across the track, narrowly missing Ilott before ending in the gravel.
That incident caused the Full Course Yellow to be implemented, with the system also used later in the race when Pedro Piquet crashed, while Defourny held a points-paying position until running wide late on, dropping to 11th.
