VR46 Racing Team has confirmed the signing of Fermin Aldeguer on a two-year deal ahead of the 2027 MotoGP season.
Aldeguer made waves with his alternative route into the grand prix circuit, taking part in the European Moto2 championship and MotoE before making a full-time move to the intermediate class in 2022.
The Spaniard impressed across his three seasons in Moto2 with a best finish of third in the standings in 2023, which saw him sign with Ducati and get a move to the Gresini MotoGP team for the 2025 season.
Aldeguer won the Rookie of the Year title in his maiden campaign after two podiums and a victory in Indonesia.
However, he has struggled this season after fracturing his femur before the first pre-season test in Buriram, although he has still managed a podium finish in Catalunya.
With his move from Gresini to VR46, Aldeguer will receive a factory-spec bike from Ducati.
“I’m very happy to be taking this step in my MotoGP career with the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team. Signing with Valentino’s team is incredible,” Aldeguer said in a press release.
“He has always been one of my idols and a role model for me. I think having him within the team will help me improve as a rider thanks to his valuable advice.
“The VR46 Racing Team is Ducati Factory Supported Team, an extremely professional outfit, and I’m very happy to be racing with them.
“With the new regulations coming in for 2027, my goal will be to adapt to the new tyres, but also to the new bike. Having the factory Ducati will be a huge help in terms of development throughout the season.
“It will be a year in which we will aim to be consistent, avoid mistakes and spend as much time as possible on the bike to gather information. I’m sure we’ll work extremely well with the whole team and the Ducati engineers.
“We’ll be able to do a great job and aim to consistently finish inside the top five.
“I can’t finish without thanking the entire Gresini Racing team and Nadia, who have helped me grow and brought me to where I am today.”
Alessio ‘Uccio’ Salucci, Team Director, added: “We are happy to confirm that Fermin will ride with the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team in 2027.
“He is a young rider who showed a huge talent right from his MotoGP debut, becoming one of the main contenders.
“We look forward to welcome him in the team, where he will ride a Factory Desmosedici GP as he will be an official Ducati Corse rider.
“We will give him our maximum support possible to reach our goals.
“Once again, I want to thank Ducati for the full support both human and technical, and thanks to all our partners for supporting us in this incredible project.”
