Porsche swept the top two positions during Friday practice for the Mexico round of the World Endurance Championship.

Andre Lotterer set the fastest lap behind the wheel of the #1 919 Hybrid, while Earl Bamber followed up in the points-leading car at a wet Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

Lotterer's time of 1:27.026s forged a gap of 0.649 seconds between the two Porsches, while the nearest Toyota finished a second off the pace.

Mike Conway turned in a 1:28.029s run to lead the sister TS050 by a further second.

In LMP2, Nicolas Lapierre led the way for Signatech Alpine with a time of 1:34.556s.

The French squad is running a revised lineup in Mexico following the withdrawal of its second Alpine A470-Gibson, and during practice all three drivers set times that would have been good enough to top the class.

Beyond Lapierre, Andre Negrao and Gustavo Menezes also fell under the 1 minute 35s barrier.

The only other LMP2 driver to achieve that number was Mathias Beche, driving the #13 Vaillante Rebellion ORECA 07.

Bruno Senna took fourth in the second Rebellion, ahead of Roman Rusinov in the 6 Hours of Spa-winning G-Drive Racing ORECA.

Fastest lap in GTE-Pro went to Ferrari's James Calado, as three different marques filled the top three places.

Driving the turbocharged 488 shared with Alessandro Pier Guidi, Calado submitted a time of 1:41.101s.

That was enough to edge out the Porsche of Fred Makowiecki by seven hundredths of a second, while Nicki Thiim lapped a further tenth down in the #95 Aston Martin.

Porsche junior Matteo Cairoli set the pace in GTE-Am for the Dempsey Proton Racing squad.

Second practice for round five of the World Endurance Championship takes place on Saturday, August 2nd at 17:15 local time.
